In early December, I visited a house where Mr. Baaten was the selling real estate agent from Huizenpraktijk giving a tour. All interested parties had been given the opportunity to submit one bid through an online bidding site until a certain point in time. We also did this. That same afternoon we received a phone call stating that our offer was the best, and later that evening we received confirmation via email as well. The following morning (less than 24 hours later), we got a phone call from Mr. Baaten informing us that the sellers had their own viewing outside of the real estate agent's process and had offered 20K more. Our offer, which went through the official bidding process, was no longer the best offer. We were naturally given the option to also increase our bid by 20K, so in the end it became a 'bidding against each other' game again. Later on we heard indirectly that it would have gone through the real estate agent anyway, which is quite disappointing as it seems like there was lying involved and the sellers were blamed.
