A genuine 1960s pearl with unrivaled views. What a location!
In 1966 did Cor Kalfsbeek (architect) sit down at his drawing table and composed a modest but stylistic masterpiece in which the spirit of the times is fully recognizable. The material use, the layout, and the use of the surroundings seem completely natural. Here you recognize craftsmanship.
In 2008 an extension was added. Usually we then see stylistic differences, material differences, and a different atmosphere. Not here. The extension is a valuable addition to the layout and the execution fully adheres to the original concept. If one does not know this, it will be difficult to notice.
The entrance is playful, friendly and stylish due to the elevation difference, giving the house character right away. The sunken garage gives the house a face in an elegant way. People with some historical awareness are simply pleased by details like a kitchen shutter. The living room is defining with its large glass wall; the wide view over protected nature is breathtaking. In the evening, the large fireplace sets the warm atmosphere and intimacy of the house.
On the front side, large trees and lots of green dominate the atmosphere, which we can easily call romantic.
And, oh yes, it also lies on the water at the back side.
This is a house with a soul, you get attached to it and it will surely not be vacated in real life.
Well, to be honest, the house is a bit outdated, but it's of excellent quality and largely sustainable. There are still steps that can be taken. The next tenant will probably want to do something about the bathroom and kitchen. That can all be done without compromising the atmosphere. A rough estimate says it's wise to bring an additional 20,000 euros to perfect the house. This is an excellent investment, and nobody will regret it.
Layout: Entrance with staircase leading to the hall followed by a corridor ending in a toilet/shower combination, stairs down to the garage/basement and storage. Access to the kitchen. Glass wall opening into the living room, extending up to the beautifully paneled ceiling and tiled floor, with sliding doors and an open fireplace. Adjacent in the “West Wing” is an office or any other designated function space, offering the same stunning view. Connected is a bedroom which also has access to the previously mentioned toilet/shower combination.
Then the “East-Wing”: Adjacent to the living room we enter a space with the kitchen pantry, the same beautiful view and originally named library in the original floor plan. From here, the parents' bedroom (with a view) with built-in closets and access to the bathroom is reachable. Also, the street-facing bedroom is accessible from the library, and this bedroom with built-in closets also has access to the bathroom equipped with bathtub, shower, toilet, and sink.
Above the library and sleeping area is a spacious attic divided into three compartments with daylight, accessible through a ceiling hatch with a pull-down ladder in the library.
The basement floor is a phenomenon in itself. The staircase leads to the garage area. Adjacent to this is a hobby basement with a separate boiler room and stair closet that maintains the original layout. Later, at an unknown time, the basements were expanded, adding two more compartments to the basement space which provide access to the spacious crawl space under the “East Wing”.
Finally, we should mention the generous garden, with pond, wood storage and outdoor shelter, all situated on the banks of the Buinen-Schoonoord canal, which was constructed in the late 1920s as a job creation project and designed for permanent natural beauty.
