Over Beek (Limburgs: Baek)
is a village in the south of the Dutch province of Limburg. It is the seat of the municipality of Beek and has 12,470 inhabitants. Larger places near Beek are Geleen and Stein.
The name 'Beek' comes from the Keutelbeek, which flows through Beek. The oldest human developments have most likely taken place along this stream.
Beek is a suburban village and shows both rural characteristics (narrow streets with old farmhouses) as well as urban characteristics (busy traffic roads and high-rise buildings).
